Dear Trinity Parents,
Why does Trinity School of Texas have summer reading assignments? Successful students are those who choose to read outside and beyond class assignments. We need to encourage students to continue reading outside class and during the summer. Remember, the best writers are always prolific readers. Productivity and efficiency are increased when school begins if all the students have read a work that teachers can begin to discuss immediately. Students have been told that they will be very well-prepared for the new school year if they complete the summer reading assignment. Four year old and lower school students are also expected to participate in class work based on summer reading. The summer reading list distributed to students will have follow-up during the first two weeks of Upper and Middle School. Lowe r school students have grown to be great readers this year. They have gained many reading skills that will still need to be practiced over the summer to ensure retention. Thus, it is important to keep students reading over the summer. Summer reading can bridge the end of one school year and the beginning of the next. Parents reading to their children during the summer lays the foundation for Pre-Kindergarten (four year olds) and Kindergarten. The summer reading list distributed to students will have follow-up during the first three weeks of Lower School. For all grade levels, summer reading encourages and develops:
Summer reading also exposes students to a variety of genres and models of good writing. In addition it provides a sense of participation in a community of readers. I encourage you to ensure that your students complete their summer reading assignment or assignments. If you have questions please call, visit or email me. Thank you for your support of academics,
